Proverbs 6:19 God hates – one who sows discord among brethren. NKJV
We have all met at least one. A quarrelsome person. Someone who argues readily or judges. An unforgiving spirit, who seems to delight in finding fault.
It has always saddened me to hear of discord within families. Perhaps, we too, have family members that display such ornery characteristics. Each confrontation, or conflict, can result in years of disharmony; and it can occur within work environments and churches too. It is such a waste of time and energy.
Bristly personalities, who feel their opinion is the only one that counts, can readily discount the input of others and remain adamant in having it all their way. Their criticism can destroy harmony in an instant. Once broken, it can be difficult to reclaim.
Titus 3:9-11 ……. avoid foolish spirits, genealogies, contentions and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless. Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition, knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned.
Prayer: Abba, we are such fickle creatures and most of us know this is not your desire. Ideally, we need to follow the example of Jesus, who loved despite rejection, but knew when to leave an objectionable persons presence. Help us to recognize the times we are caught in such a trap and give us Your strength and grace to distance ourselves from quarrelsome folk. Let us pray for their troubled spirits and accept Your Will in our lives; to be the best that we can be for You. Amen.
