We are all sons or daughters with a father (mother).
We may also, be a father and have sons or daughters.
Lately I hear more and more people talking about respect! Respecting others; being respected, or not; showing respect; all important.
I won’t share my thoughts on honour (honor): it is above and beyond respect. Webster’s Dictionary explanation: reputation, recognition, privilege, reverence. Good name or public esteem, marital respect …… and it goes on.
Pat and I gave all our children a copy of The Ten Commandments.
These are not Oprah’s top 10, or Dr. Oz’s 10 tips for a better life. They are commandments.
Number five – honour your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Exodus 20.
I believe the commandments are listed in order of importance to show us how to live an honourable, and good life.
The first four are all about our Lord and God, and how He is to be honoured, respected and treated.
Number five – honour your father and your mother, comes before (Number six) Thou shalt not kill. Think about that – It is considered to be more important (vital) to life than ‘do not kill’.
We grew up in a time when honour was talked about, and practiced, much more than it is these days. However, remembering D-Day and the sacrifices of that day, and all the lives lost through the Second World War, we still continue to hear about honour. It is, therefore, of significant importance.
So, please, sons and daughters, HONOUR your father this father’s day, and always, (and your mothers), so that you too, may live long in the land the Lord your God has given you.
May God bless you and His peace be with you, all the days of your lives.
In your own time, read more about honour and all that it means, in and for life.
