The visit to the Bush Plane Museum, was far more interesting than I expected it would be. It was fascinating (and sometimes alarming) to see the numerous models of bush plane, including the mighty water carrier, used to combat forest fires. Some of the earlier planes were really tight on space: I can imagine there were possibly some hair-raising journeys taken in a few of them.
A conversation with a Mr. J. Lalonde and his work partner proved to be especially interesting. They had built (and were still completing) a small plane; modelled on a Tiger Moth this beauty – a Fox Moth DH 83C – was going to be flown to Toronto at the end of this month by these two volunteers. The museum is well worth a visit if you are in the Sault Ste. Marie area.
